Archaeology at the Arsenal

The Fayetteville Arsenal is long gone, but some of its treasures remain.

On Aug. 27, Ken Robinson of Wake Forest University will discuss some of those treasures at a 7 p.m. program at the Museum of the Cape Fear.

Robinson, who directs the public archaeology program at Wake Forest, heads an annual summer archaeology camp for teachers at the arsenal grounds. This year's program was held in July.

Chris Woodson, Arsenal Park education coordinator, said some of the items that have been found over the years include rifles from the arsenal as well as household items from homes that were built on the grounds after it was destroyed in the waning days of the Civil War.

Robinson will present a Power Point presentation on the findings. The program is free.

The museum is at Arsenal and Bradford avenues. Call 486-1330.
