Fourth Friday unofficial kick to International Fest

When the calendar lands on the fourth of Friday the month, you know it's time for the Arts Council's celebration of artistic creation in downtown Fayetteville.

This month's event is sort of an "unofficial" kick off to the International Folk Festival this weekend. In celebration of the 31st year of the festival, the council is presenting "Cultural Expressions: Artistic Impressions of Culture through Painting, Drawing, Sculpture or Mixed Media." The exhibit opens from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

This juried art competition showcases the diverse cultures of our global community. The evening features live entertainment, refreshments, and the winners will be announced at 8:00 p.m. It all takes place at the Arts Council building, 301 Hay St.

Other Places to Visit during the September Fourth Friday:

Cape Fear Studios will feature the Fayetteville Art Guild Fall 2009 Juried Art Show.

City Center Gallery & Books will feature photographs and note cards by Cheryl Farmer of AWAKENING PHOTOGRAPHY.

Fascinate-U Children's Museum invites children to make recycled bulletin boards to take home.

The Fayetteville Transportation Museum will present a display of vintage cars.

The Headquarters Library will showcase International Voices and Perspectives, a panel discussion with Fulbright Scholars from Fayetteville State University. These visiting scholars from China, Kenya, Nigeria and Egypt will talk about their life experiences and what America means to them.

Visit the Market House to enjoy a historical exhibit on the Scottish connection in Fayetteville with live bagpipers and Scottish dancers.

Strung Out on Beads will feature a jewelry exhibit by Italian artist Romana Gennaro.

Rude Awakening will feature new work by David McCune.
