Fourth Friday features singers and songwriters

This month's installment of Fourth Friday will bring a more musical lean to things, as the Arts Council will present its Songwriters Expo program, featuring several local musicians who will share ideas on composing music, their inspirations, and even a few songs.

The expo will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arts Council building at 301 Hay Street.

Among the talented local musicians and songwriters that will take part are:

For more than 40 years, Morris Cardenas has written and performed music, specializing in Latino rock and classic rock. Cardenas is the leader of the Borderland Band.

Irish singer and songwriter Paddy Gibney has made a name for his dirty Irish drinking ditties, as well as his soulful folk songs. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Gibney has made Fayetteville his home since the 1990s.

Raeford native Ethan Hanson has been such a consistent presence on the Fayetteville music scene, he may as well live here. The young and talented singer and guitar player has been playing professionally since he was 13.

R&B performer Brian Morgan was inspired at a young age by the church organist in his childhood town of Englewood, N.J. Today, Morgan is an artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, writer, performer and composer.

If you don't know folk specialist Caroline Parsons, then you don't know local music. The Fayetteville native is the leader of the well-known group The Parsons, along with her husband Jon, and is a tremendous storytelling, singing, and songwriting talent.

Dave Stone is perhaps best known as on-air personality "Stoney," for 96.5 The Drive, but he's also a talented country artist, who learned to play music at age 30.

Last, but not least, local rocker Jeremy Strothers has been a longtime veteran singer and songwriter in the Fayetteville scene and beyond as leader of DL Token.

The Songwriters Expo is free and open to the public. For more information, call 323-1776.
