It's Super Bowl time

SUPER BOWL

OK, folks, it's time for the biggest televised event of the year: The Super Bowl. Here's a rundown of some things to know:

The game: The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints will start their battle at 6 p.m. on CBS. Country star Carrie Underwood is singing the national anthem while Queen Latifah will perform "America the Beautiful." The Who will provide halftime entertainment.

The Commercials: This year, a 30-second commerical is going for $2.8 million. After the game, go to www.spike.com/ superbowl to see almost all of the commercials as well as old ads from the last eight years. Talk about your favorites at blogs.fayobserver.com/ entertainment.

The counterprogramming: It's no secret that I love the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. The little pups, plucked from shelters, scramble around on a mini field. There is a kitty half-time show, and I'm even more excited about two new additions this year: aerial coverage from a blimp that is presumably run by a "rogue hamster crew" (Animal Planet's words, not mine) as well as bunny rabbit cheerleaders on the sidelines. So cute! It is from 3 to 5 p.m. and repeats every two hours throughout the night.

The after show: CBS is going with a new show to premiere after the game at 10 p.m., or after the action is over. In "Undercover Boss," powerful corporate execs work in cognito with their employees to see what conditions are really like. Presumably, the CEO will make changes. The companies include Waste Management, 7-Eleven, Hooters and Churchill Downs.
