The Buzz: George Lopez goes Looney Tunes
Yes, kids. "Speedy Gonzales," the movie, is in the works! The Looney Tunes character is being resurrected for the big screen and will be voiced by Hispanic comedian George Lopez, according to starpluse.com. Speedy hit the scene in the 1950s as a Warner Brothers' character but was later chastised for perpetuating racial stereotypes.
Lopez hopes to "revamp the character to make him politically correct," Star Pulse reports. "We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s - the racist Speedy," says Lopez's wife, Ann Lopez, who will serve as producer for the animated film. "Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he's a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he's good at."
