'Grown Folks Business' features local actress

When the play "Grown Folks Business" takes the stage at the Crown Theatre on Saturday, a local actress will be among the show's stars.
Anna Douglas, a 2004 South View High School graduate, will play Sabrina, one of the play's three central characters. Douglas, a hair stylist at Hair In Motion on Raeford Road, is also a gospel singer and Christian comedian.
"I auditioned for the part, and they handed me the script on the spot," said Douglas, who is the sole Fayetteville actor among the Charlotte-based cast.
Douglas said she was interested in the role of Sabrina because of her depth.
"Sabrina's lifestyle isn't the best. She makes some bad choices while trying to escape the life that her mother lived," said Douglas. "No matter what she does, she keeps coming back to that. But then things change, but I can't give anything else away."
Douglas said she got to flex her acting muscles with Sabrina.
"I really had to study her, because she's so different than I am," said Douglas.
This will be Douglas' first major production, but she has been performing all her life with the church choir at Faith Tabernacle Christian Center in St. Pauls.
She also has performed backup vocals for singers such as Byron Cage, Hezekiah Walker, Vickie Winans, Judy Jacobs, Alvin Slaughter, Donnie McClurkin and Marvin Sapp.
"I always dreamed of doing something like this," she said.
Douglas hopes to see more stage time in the future. She hopes that the audience comes away affected by her performance.
"I hope they see something that helps them change their lives," said Douglas.
