"First Synagogue Series" exhibit: Dr. Tulla Lightfoot, art professor at UNCP, will exhibit graphite drawings from the series through March 31 at the campus' Multicultural Center. In the project, she traced the establishment of Jewish congregations in each of the 50 states. Drawings range from depictions of "Shearith Israel," the first American synagogue founded in New Amsterdam in 1654, to "Beth David," the pioneer synagogue founded in Miami. 521-6508.

Averasboro Battlefield Museum: 3300 N.C. 82, Dunn. (Exit 71 off Interstate 95). Site of the Battle of Averasboro, which occurred in March 1865. House In The Horseshoe: 268 Alston House Road, Sanford. The 18th-century plantation home features guided tours of the historic site. Mill Prong House: 3062 Edinburg Road, Red Springs. Built in 1795, the house is one of few remaining Highland Scot settlements in the state. It was renovated in the 1830s in the Greek Revival style. OUTDOORS & RECREATION
Cape Fear Botanical Garden: 536 N. Eastern Blvd., Fayetteville. The site includes open spaces, cultivated areas, and hundreds of species of native plants and nature trails. Wednesday is volunteer day from 9 a.m. to noon. Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Information: 486-0221 or www.capefearbg.org.
Cape Fear River Trail: The 4.2-mile paved trail can be accessed at Treetop Drive, Eastwood Avenue and Sherman Drive. It is available for walkers, joggers and bicyclists. Restrooms are at Jordan Soccer Complex and at the Clark Park Nature Center. Hours: Daily from 8 a.m. to dusk. Map available at www.fcpr.us.
Clark Park Nature Center: 631 Sherman Drive, Fayetteville. The 76-acre park has three nature trails, a waterfall, a picnic area, a campground and an overlook of the Cape Fear River. Fort Bragg Riding Stables: Smith Lake, Fort Bragg. The site has more than 10 miles of trails for riding. Pony rides and lessons are offered. Hours vary by season.
