Tracy Morgan will be at Goodnight's Comedy Club
A staff report
Tracy Morgan, the Emmy-nominated comedian, actor and star of NBC's "30 Rock," will bring his outlandish comedy stylings to Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh this weekend.
Morgan's "Did-he-just-say-that?" antics will be on full display with performances Saturday and Sunday nights as he tunes up for his next HBO special, which will be taping in September.
Morgan, a New York City native, developed his stand-up and sketch comedy skills while working the national comedy circuit, including appearances on "Apollo Comedy Hour," "Def Comedy Jam," "Showtime at the Apollo," "Snaps," and "Uptown Comedy Club."
Morgan's routines led to his discovery and casting on the popular comedy TV show, "Martin."
Morgan moved on to "Saturday Night Live" in 1996, where he developed and performed a variety of characters until his departure in 2003. Later that year, Morgan got his own show, "The Tracy Morgan Show," on NBC, but it was canceled after its first season.
In 2006, Morgan began work on "30 Rock," appearing as a character not far removed from himself - oddball comedian and actor Tracy Jordan, star of the "SNL"-like "TGS Show."
Morgan received critical praise for his zany performance on "30 Rock," which eventually led to an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series in 2009, as well as Image Award nominations for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for 2007 and 2008.
When not busy filling TV screens with laughter, Morgan has numerous film credits under his belt, including "Cop Out," "Half Baked," "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate," "The Longest Yard" and "Death at a Funeral."
Did You Know?
Here are a few fun facts - and one serious - about Morgan:
Morgan has told numerous talk show hosts, including Conan O'Brien, that he collects tropical fish.
Morgan claims he has never seen "Spiderman" because the film's star Tobey Maguire owes him $75.
Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996, but didn't take it seriously until getting seriously ill on the set of "30 Rock" - after running a 104-degree fever. Morgan has since changed his diet and exercises regularly. His battle with diabetes has been incorporated, with his permission, into episodes of "30 Rock."
